Pressure Sensitive Adhesives - Signs and Labels

While some adhesives might require heat or some kind of solvent to efficiently activate and bind two materials together, pressure sensitive adhesives (PSA) only require pressure. PSA materials are made from a non-cross linked rubber adhesives, polyurethanes and acrylics. Although a pressure sensitive adhesive can form a strong bond, it can also be produced so it is easily peeled off without damaging the surface.  PSA's can firmly adhere to almost all types of surfaces such as wood, paper, and plastic. Tape, labels, and post-it notes are also products that use PSA's.

There are 3 types of PSA Products:

Pressure sensitive adhesives come in a variety of different chemical compositions. Most commonly, they are made from rubber-based or acrylic adhesives, which are generally used for household purposes. Natural resins and synthetic rubber-based adhesives consist of organic compounds, such as chloroprene, polybutadiene, neoprene, and silicone.Most types of pressure sensitive adhesive labels "cure" quickly, and bond instantly.  As a result, applying a product with a PSA should be done with care.  Many PSA's continue to strengthen their bond over a period of 24 hours. Certain "low-tack" PSA's are not permanent and allow for easy repositioning.
