Each June, the National Safety Council sponsors
National Safety Month, a chance to educate and encourage safe behaviors
around the leading causes of preventable injuries and deaths. This year
we are focusing on Safety 24/7 because injuries and deaths off-the-job
greatly outnumber those on-the-job.

Week
1 will focus on employee wellness and how the principles of physical
activity and proper nutrition can help us live safer and healthier
lives. We aim to get thousands involved in the Presidential Active
Lifestyle Award challenge.
Week 2 will highlight ergonomics as
previous event participants have noted this as one of the most pressing
safety and health issues facing their organizations.
Week 3 will
focus on fall prevention because falls are one of the leading causes of
injury and emergency room visits, and especially dangerous for older
adults.
Week 4 will feature safe driving as motor vehicle crashes are the #1 cause of work-related deaths.
The
National Safety Council has set a goal to prevent an additional 10,000
deaths and 1 million injuries by 2014, and through your support of
efforts, such as National Safety Month.
